In this release, the benefits of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform capabilities are made available through close collaboration with V5-6R2014. Social collaboration, enterprise management, and dashboard capabilities can be used to support processes using the V5-6R2014 toolset.
Dassault Systèmes continues to support industry-leading multi-version compatibility, allowing users based on V5-6 and V6 architectures to share and edit parts at the feature level. V5-6R2014 extends the scope of this capability to provide compatibility with CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE R2014x.
Two new CATIA products are available in this release.
CATIA Mechanical Surface Refinement 2 and CATIA ICEM Surf to CATIA Interface 2. Both of these capabilities are designed to optimize collaboration and interoperability to improve productivity in surface design.

Geometric tolerance symbol customization
In CATIA V5-6R2014, administrators can define and customize the symbols available to users in each geometric tolerance field. This ensures compliance with a number of standards, such as ISO 1101:2012, ISO 5459:2011, and ASME Y14.5-2009.
ASME Y14.5-2009 support
New semantic attributes and symbols are available to support ASME Y14.5-2009. V5-6R2014 also introduces an improved user interface with enhanced capabilities for placing annotations and moving existing geometry using the Smart Assistant.
CATIA V5-6R2014 provides new usability and performance enhancements, such as thick profiles for cutouts, user-defined types of unfolded curves, and offsets from the base edge. The new “body array” feature allows sheet metal array elements to be applied to the current solid body.
CATIA V5-6R2014 provides new capabilities for creating complex bend features on hydroformed parts. Users can now create the same bend on a surface flange and its support (wall or other surface flange). The surface flange can be created on another surface flange containing breaks, and the bend can be created on a surface wall.
CATIA Mechanical Surface Refinement (SRF) is a new product that provides an intermediate set of capabilities between Generative Shape Design (GSD) and CATIA ICEM, and is intended for GSD or mechanical surface engineers who want to create higher quality surfaces with Class A surface attributes within an associative or feature-based modeling process.
CATIA ICEM Surf to CATIA Interface (ICC) is a new product that supports data exchange between ICEM Surf and CATIA within widely used CATIA-based engineering solutions.
CATIA Composites Engineering V5-6R2014 contains several new features that improve productivity and usability. Ramp supports now benefit from a new “multiparallel” option and a new “center on support element” option. Solid cuts enable free contour calculation through intersection. Contour creation provides improved visual feedback and allows you to create templates for layers of the same shape when creating layers.
CATIA Tooling Solutions in V5-6R2014 offer improvements for the realistic shape optimizer: a new function has been introduced to optimize the control of symmetrical part transformations.
A new smoothing option gives users more control through alternative surface quality or deviation tolerance options. To extend the constraint, the “Attenuation” parameter allows for better control of morphing when the deviation vector is partially available.
Structure detail design and structure function design provide important improvements: Advance Copy increases productivity by copying and reusing existing project parts with new symmetry and translation capabilities. The GVS Editor provides easy ways to modify GVS files, and GVS changes in the drawing can be quickly reviewed.
Stiffening ribs can now be extended beyond their support, and comb improvements now support the preliminary plate and sketch constraint. Drawing customization is also provided. Early welding information is collected and stored in the Weld Management command.
We were able to leverage 80 years of aircraft design experience and incorporate it into CATIA V5 calculation tables that engineers can use again and again.
